Please meet young, upcoming artists Sofia & Ina

Meet Denizen Sofia & Ina

Hi Neighbour,

We're thrilled to share the latest edition of our "Meet the Denizens" series, where we showcase the incredible talents and contributions of our community members.

Meet Sofia & Ina

Ina Schürmann is a Berlin-based visual artist who works with poetry, analogue photography, and alternative printing processes like cyanotype. Her art revolves around themes of home, feminism, and introspection, often capturing intimate moments among her friends.

Sofia Maddalena Scolaro is a Swiss-Italian artist based in Berlin. Her work involves various painting methods, including tempera colors, ecoline, and watercolor, combined with techniques like photography and collage. Instead of specific themes, Sofia's art centers on capturing feelings and the elements that surround her.

What was the best advice you've been given?

Ina: The best advice I've ever received was from my father. He told me to let life unfold on its own instead of trying to control every aspect. As simple as it may sound, this advice has been incredibly valuable to me.

What are the 3 things you cannot live without?

Sofia: Three things I can't live without? The people I love around me, delicious food, walks with my dog, and soaking in beautiful views. Oh, that's four already—haha 😆

What is the last book you've read?

Ina: The last book I read was "Everything I Know About Love" by Dolly Alderton. It had me laughing so much on my last vacation. I think it's a must-read for anyone navigating their way through the rollercoaster of love in their twenties and thirties. 📚

What makes you happy?

Ina: Late-night conversations make me happy. There's something special about the quiet moments when the world is asleep, and it's just the exchange of thoughts and stories that brings joy to my heart. 💫

What would be your "keyword" for Berlin?

Sofia: My "keyword" for Berlin would be super chaotic but, at the same time, extremely peaceful. It's this unique blend of energy and tranquility that makes the city so captivating.

Share with us what your perfect day would look like

Ina: Waking up leisurely, coffee in hand, a cig on the balcony while watching the clouds drift by. More coffee, some cake, and a round of cards with friends, all to a musical backdrop. Coffee eventually transforms into wine, and we dance the night away before ending up back on the balcony. 💃

Sofia: A perfect day for me starts without an alarm, followed by a delicious breakfast. I'd get outside, perhaps take a walk around a lake, get inspired, and start drawing. Afterward, soaking up the sun with a friend or losing myself in a good book. In the evening, it's apero time, catching a stunning sunset and maybe a little dancing to cap off a beautiful day. 🌞

What brought you to Denizen?

Sofia: So, Cate, my buddy from way back, is working at Denizen. She told me how cool it is here—super innovative and collaborative. I thought, Why not check it out? Turns out it's the perfect fit for my creative vibe.

Ina: I'm here because of my art show partner-in-crime, Sofia. We're stoked about the opportunity to host our exhibition and showcase our art. Grateful for the chance!

Sofia's and Ina's artwork will be on display at Denizen Eiswerk in Berlin from the 10th of November until the 24th of November.

Come and have a look at those beautiful art pieces. 📸🖼️

Cheers,

The Denizen Team
