About the event

002: rights in visual arts.

a discussion on the legal and commercial stuff nobody teaches artists.

we are taking a practical approach, working through the real situations visual artists face, from the moment an idea exists to the moment a work is sold, commissioned, licensed or exhibited. Struggling with the business side of your creative practice? Come share your questions and let’s figure them out.

what we will cover:

⭑ IP basics — at what point does an idea become yours and how can you use it?
⭑ different engagement types — (acquisition, consignment, commission, licensing, service, loan, non-profit ) give real examples of what each means legally and what to watch for.
⭑ practical scenarios and how to protect your work and how to price them under different engagements.

⭑ Make the process and communication with your clients smooth, easy, and trustworthy.

You will be joined by Clementine, creative industries lawyer, and Yi Weihua,  art consultant with over 10 years of experience managing public art commissions internationally, and a lecturer at BBK Berlin.

as always, our aim is to make law understandable and digestible, to better the artist's position.

this is principle-based education, not 1-1 legal advice. come with questions.

the session will be taught in english.

About the host

Welcome to f* the contract, a legal education project founded by creative lawyers who deeply understand both sides of the table. Born out of real conversations with musicians, dancers, and designers, the project aims to bridge the gap between complex law and the creative community. Besides providing vital legal knowledge, the goal is to connect independent creatives living in or visiting Berlin.
