LABOR as both artistic/manual work and as a space for experimentation. It is also the act of bringing something into existence—creation as both a process and a struggle. In this title, Elvira acknowledges the physical and mental process behind her work. Hours in the darkroom and print studio shape each piece, but chance is just as crucial—how materials react, how light leaves its mark, how a found object sparks an idea. Creation is both labor and mysterious event. Each work in the series is a record of its own making—marked by exposure, physical engagement, conditions and layering. The exhibition is both a site of artistic ability and a meditation on the unseen forces that shape an image.
In LABOR, Elvira Akzigitova expands her practice beyond traditional printmaking. Using light-sensitive expired GDR stock, salvaged materials, and handmade tools, she embraces imperfection and unpredictability in the making of the images.

Elvira Akzigitova (1988, Tallinn) is a self-taught analog visual artist who spends long hours in the photographic darkroom and printmaking studio. She consistently searches for a broader horizon of photographic vision, and when successful, her process is led by discovery and deep feeling. The artist has developed her own cameraless analogue optical themes, known as light graphics—direct expressions of light on light-sensitive materials. These impressions are then transferred to a UV-sensitive intaglio plate, etched onto fine art or handmade paper, and passed through a printing press. Through scraping, scratching, and rubbing into the surface to create intricate incised designs, Elvira finds solace in the tactile materials and the musky ink aroma of the printing facilities.
