Join us for the opening of 'All in One', a selection of paintings and photographs by the wonderfully talented Vigdís Erla Guttormsdóttir!
When: Thursday, 7th March, 19:00 - 22:30
Where: Denizen Eiswerk
'All in One' holds selected work from Vigdís’ painting series ‘Shades of Summer’ (2021-2023) and photographs from her series ‘Vinkonur’ (2010-present).
‘Vinkonur’ (Girlfriends) is an ongoing photography project by Vigdís Erla Guttormsdóttir. The project began over 10 years ago with Vigdís capturing her sisters in their childhood home in Reykjavík, Iceland. This experience, capturing the women closest to her in their environment on grainy black and white film, inspired their photography journey, spurring her ritual of photographing her friends, where she has spent the past 10 years capturing these intimate moments.
‘Shades of Summer’ are a body of work which documented a sudden change in her life in 2021. The paintings came to form a diary of sorts, an account of her feelings, emotions and observations through different mediums. Through a fortunate series of events she rediscovered her love for painting which she had lost since childhood. "Through the painting I began to find my voice again, a voice I had lost over many years of events and trauma. I was able to express my innermost feelings and thoughts with colours, marking the highs and lows all on canvas, one after another.”
Vigdís Erla Guttormsdóttir (b. 1992, Reykjavík) is an Icelandic multi-media artist based in Berlin. She holds a degree in multimedia design from Borgarholtsskóli in Reykjavík, and a Bachelor of Arts in film and motion design from BTK, Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule in Berlin.
She describes her work as “similar to dancing, creativity is all about the rhythm, flow and expression.”
